Why I Joined Redfin: Tracy Vasquez

by Jim Marks

Tracy Vasquez is a Redfin Premier agent serving customers in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. She joined Redfin in August 2024 after building a successful team, The Radiant Home Group. We caught up with Tracy to hear more about her experience at Redfin so far. You can follow her on Instagram.

Tell me about your career before Redfin.

Earlier in my career, I was a part of a brokerage as an agent and as a productivity coach, which meant that I got to work with new agents in my market center to help them ramp up and maximize their productivity. I enjoyed that role because I could help new agents be successful, and it was a lot of fun. After moving from Northern Maryland to Southern Maryland in 2017, I joined RE/MAX. I had some of the agents from my productivity coaching come with me to form a team that we called The Radiant Home Group. I was like the mama bear, leading my team of agents and support staff ranging from 10-14 amazing humans through the wild world of real-estating. I loved that size of a team because it kept me busy with coaching, but still gave me enough bandwidth to work with my own clients.

What made you decide to join Redfin?

I serve as the president of the Southern Maryland Association of Realtors. It was through my involvement there that I met this incredible lady, Kim Gosnell, who works for Redfin as a sales manager. Kim wore a Redfin hat to our Association’s Awards ceremony last year, which is always going to spark conversation! She swears to this day that she wasn’t trying to recruit me, and I think that’s true because she was so genuine! She was just really interested in how I work and what motivates me. The first time I met her, she asked how I’d sum up my approach to real estate in a sentence. I said if I were trying to help a new agent, I’d say “do the right thing, and the universe will work itself out.” And she was like “no way, that’s practically one of Redfin’s core values!” So the more I learned about Redfin from her, I realized that this makes more sense than it doesn’t.

How has joining Redfin changed the way you work?

You really live inside your tech here. The traditional world isn’t great at that! When Kim told me I’d be living by a calendar and a CRM, I said “that’s not for me.” And it’s so cheesy, but I love it now. I love the level of seamless organization it gives me. It’s like having a magical fairy that makes things happen. New leads… check. Appointments… check. Team meetings… check. Kids’ volleyball games… check—all tied up in a pretty red bow. I thought I was organized before, but Redfin has really kicked that up a notch.

As a Redfin agent, I still do real estate my way, but there’s a bigger picture now. I’ve had a team my entire real estate career, yet I feel more like a team now as a solo agent than I ever did before. I like that I am just responsible for myself, but as a bonus I have Young and Catherine (my coordinators), and I have associate agents all across my territory to help with so much more than just showings! These are all totally my people, but I’m also not in charge of them. There’s a level of professionalism in the Redfin model. And it already shows in my results—I’m only a few months into my Redfin world, and I’ve closed more than I anticipated and have even more under contract.

What do you think makes Redfin different from other brokerages?

Redfin has an entire group of humans who actually believe that if they do the right thing for their clients, then all will be well in the world.  It’s about going a step further, doing the right thing, not just for buyers and sellers, but for your agents as well. On top of that, Redfin provides the support to follow through with it, to make it all come full circle. This is what makes for a better working experience and working relationships with the people around you.

What would you say to an agent who was thinking about joining Redfin?

I know that it’s tough to transition between brokerages, especially from a “traditional model” to the Redfin model that does things so differently. Our whole careers we’ve been told the benefits of being business owners, catering towards the entrepreneurial spirit that I know a lot of great agents have. But I think people need to understand how powerful it can be to have those things taken care of for you. Take the cost of your office space, your mileage, your leads, your team—then add on to it, how much does it cost me in terms of time and energy to manage all of that? How many more clients can you be helping with that time and energy? It’s not that my system was broken, but it’s a paradigm shift that you don’t know you’re ready for. It’s been the biggest blessing of my career to realize what it could look like to do things differently.

Redfin is looking for ambitious, mission-driven agents and managers to join our team nationwide. If you’re interested in joining some of the top agents in the industry and growing your business with Redfin, visit our career page or join our talent community.
