Why I Joined Redfin: Rob Griffin

Rob Griffin is a Redfin Premier agent in the greater Seattle area, serving buyers and sellers in Snohomish County. He joined Redfin in June 2024 after nearly two decades at local traditional brokerages. We caught up with Rob to learn more about his experience at Redfin so far. 

How did you get started in real estate?

My real estate journey started a long time ago. When I was in elementary school, my dad and I loved going to open houses. We’d spend our weekends just looking around, having fun and daydreaming. That experience always stuck with me and really resurfaced when I was 23. I had just gotten married and wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do with my life, so I started slowly chipping away at my clock hours. I got my license at the beginning of 2007 and started my career with John L. Scott. That was a great training ground for me, but once I was standing on my own two feet I wanted to go somewhere that offered more commission. I was at Skyline Properties for about eight years, then was head hunted by a group of top agents who started The Agency Northwest. They really allowed me to branch out and do things my own way. 

Why did you decide to join Redfin? 

Real estate is a feast or famine business, and I’ve experienced many ups and downs throughout my career. After 18 years of riding that rollercoaster, I got tired of it. I was getting burnt out and losing my passion a bit, and I knew something had to change. I started looking at Redfin since I had been a partner agent many years ago. They were just rolling out Redfin Next, and that intrigued me. I have a big sphere of influence, and I liked the idea of making more on those deals while not having to pay for leads. 

How has joining Redfin changed the way you work?

It’s been absolutely night and day. I’ve always done every aspect of the job from start to finish—I’ve never had a transaction coordinator, never had showing agents, everything has always been on my shoulders. The first month I was a little leery of using everything Redfin had to offer because I’ve had that control for so long. I kept thinking, “do they really know what they’re doing?” But once I saw how my transaction coordinator, Lexi, was handling everything I knew I was in good hands. I was finally able to take this breath of fresh air and feel renewed. 

Working with Redfin’s technology has been a big change for me too, and I’m hooked. I’m doing a lot more volume than I did on my own, so it’s been great to keep my entire customer list organized in a CRM that’s easy to use. Agent Tools can tell you “Oh, you haven’t checked up on this client in a while, you should send them a proactive email. Also, here’s a map of all the homes you’re about to tour, and here’s all the forms you’ll need.” My job has always been to focus on relationships—to meet clients, gain their trust, and to provide great service. It’s just so much easier to do it all with Redfin. 

What would you say to an agent who was thinking about joining Redfin?

I get this question a lot, not only from clients and agents but from family and friends who wonder why I moved over. To be honest, I had a negative bias toward Redfin for a lot of my career. In my area, they were always winning listings and doing so many more transactions. I didn’t really understand it being on the other side. When I got to see the products they offer their clients up close, and how easy Redfin is to use, it was a no brainer. I regret not joining Redfin earlier. It’s a fantastic product and an incredible value to my clients. Now when I’m working with my sphere clients, they can see how much they’re saving compared to when I was at other brokerages.
