Find the Perfect Home Day or Night with Dark Mode

The homes on Redfin are dazzling, but your late-night browsing experience doesn’t need to be. Dark mode is now available on the Redfin iOS app! 

By turning down the lights, we’re making our app more enjoyable to use no matter when or where you’re searching for homes. Scrolling in bed at night? While you’re rocking your baby to sleep? During the previews of your favorite movie? Using dark mode can help you see more comfortably in low-light environments, search without disturbing others, and even extend your phone’s battery life—making it easier to find your perfect home, day or night. 

You Asked, We (Finally) Listened

Dark mode has been one of our most-requested features for years thanks to a strong contingent of nighttime Redfin surfers. About 40% of our iOS app sessions happen between the hours of 6pm and 7am, and more than half of our users searching during that time have their device set to dark mode. 

“It may have taken us a while, but we’re excited to be one of the first real estate search apps to embrace our dark side,” said George Perantatos, Redfin’s senior director of product. “Dark mode gives you more control over your search experience. Whether you’re a dedicated night browser or just prefer the softer look, you can now explore listings in a way that feels more comfortable.”

How It Works

If you’re a current Redfin user, you’ll be prompted to pick a theme next time you launch the Redfin app. You can choose from light, dark, or system default—which means we’ll automatically follow along with your phone’s settings. 

If you’re a new Redfin user, we’ll automatically default to your phone’s current settings. You can change your preferences any time by clicking “My Redfin” in the bottom right corner of your app, tapping the gear icon on the top right, then clicking “app theme” under “appearance.”

This feature is available on iOS today and is coming soon to Android. To all the late-night Redfin lurkers and early bird home searchers, thanks for being patient with us. This one’s for you!
